The underdog New York Giants made another playoff upset at the most important game of the NFL season. The Giants never gave up in Superbowl 42. When the Giants were behind by 4 points with less than 3 minutes remaining in the game, Eli Manning made critical passes and the Giants receivers made fantastic catches to win the game. The Patriots’ defense could not stop the Giants in the last 3 minutes of the game. The Patriots defense had multiple opportunities to intercept Manning’s passes in the last minutes but were not able to make the interceptions. The Giants defeated the New England Patriots with a score of 17-14. The Giants showed their desire to win with a more physical play than the Patriots. The wildcard Giants set the record as the lowest playoff ranked team to win the Superbowl. Even the Giants got a record by playing against the Patriots. The Giants must have caught Patriots’ record breaking fever. If you were a Giants fan, you would be the happiest person in the world with one of the biggest upsets in sports history. The Giants last minute comeback made this one of the most exciting Superbowls reminiscent of the Patriots Superbowl 36 win at the last minute against the St. Louis Rams but this time, the Patriots are at the losing end of an upset.

The Patriots had made winning look so simple this season that it was shocking to see the Patriots lose. The majority of viewers expected the Patriots to win easily against the Giants. The disappointed Patriots lost mainly because their offense could not handle the blitzing Giants defense in the second and third quarters of the game. The Patriots were not able to block the Giants pass rushers nor were the Patriots running backs able to rush. The Patriots got so many penalties that they could not get a rhythm going. The Giants accomplished their game plan of continuously putting pressure on Tom Brady. Although the Patriots were not able to win this Superbowl, a Superbowl appearance enforced the Patriots “dynasty of the decade” status with 4 Superbowl appearances so far this decade. The Patriots got a perfect 16 wins regular season but were not able to obtain the prestigious perfect 19 wins in an entire NFL season. If it was easy to win 19 consecutive games then it wouldn’t be called a quest. It’s too bad that the loss had to happen in the Superbowl. A record 18 wins and 1 loss is really not that bad. Bill Belichick and Tom Brady already have 3 Superbowl wins and are young enough to attempt for more in the future. This is Belichick and Brady's first loss in a Superbowl. As dedicated sports fans say, “There’s always next year.”.

Superbowl 42 had 97.5 million viewers, the second most watched TV show in history. 105.7 people watched the fourth quarter. FOX charged $2.7 million per 30 second commercial ad with 63 ad slots.

Breaking dozens of records this season. The Patriots have been the favorites all season. But this matchup will not be easily decided.

The Giants played the Patriots in the last game of the regular season, which was broadcasted on 4 channels. The Patriots’ win at New York set the record of a perfect 16 consecutive win regular season. Against all odds, the wildcard Giants defeated every favored team in the playoffs for 3 straight weeks to get to the Superbowl. A Patriots’ Superbowl win will set the record of a perfect entire NFL season with 19 consecutive wins. But it will be difficult against a Giants team that is on a streak of defeating favorites. Again, only the Giants stand in the way of a perfect season. The coaches and players will not have to do much analysis for this game. This game is exactly the same as the last regular season game with similar records at stake. The situation is so unusual, that you might think this game must be an act of God.

The New York Giants were close to losing to the Green Bay Packers due to 2 missed field goals by Giants’ kicker Tynes. One of the 2 missed field goals was due to a bad snap. Eli Manning lead the underdog Giants in overtime to another upset and a victory in the 2007 NFC Championship with a score of 23 to 20.

The score did not reflect the closeness of the New England Patriots versus San Diego Chargers game. Tom Brady threw 3 interceptions. One of the 3 interceptions was due to a tipped ball. But the Chargers also made turnovers. The Patriots won the game due to the defense, Maroney and Faulk. Winning the AFC Championship with a score of 21 to 12 is the Patriots’ 18th consecutive win of the season.

The New York Giants have been the underdog throughout the playoffs. But they have defeated the favored teams in each away game for the last 2 weeks. This is reminiscent of the New England Patriots’ 2001 Superbowl 36 season. Eli Manning has lead the Giants to upset victories. The Giants will be a huge threat to Brett Favre and the Green Bay Packers. This NFC Championship game will be a contest for the second place team in NFL 2007.

The New England Patriots are the top seed to win Superbowl 42. This is a rematch of last year’s playoff game. As long as the Patriots’ defense remains aggressive for the entire game and stop Tomilson from long yardage rushes, the Patriots will have little difficulty in stopping the San Diego Chargers in the AFC Championship game.

NFL 2007 Divisional Playoff - Upset Sunday

On Saturday, 1-12-2008, the favored teams in the NFL 2007 Divisional Playoffs won as expected. The underdogs were leading in the first quarter of both games but the favorites made a come back. Seattle Seahawks lost to the Packers at Green Bay with a score of 20 to 42. Jacksonville Jaguars lost to the Patriots at New England with a score of 20 to 31.

Both divisional playoff games on Sunday, 1-13-2008 were upsets. San Diego Chargers defeated the Colts at Indianapolis with a score of 28 to 24. New York Giants defeated the Cowboys at Dallas with a score of 21 to 17.

Of course, the perfect regular season New England Patriots are favored to win against the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Jaguars are dominated by the Patriots in offense, defense, special teams, and coaching. If the Patriots have a difficult time in winning the game, it will be due to their own over-confidence. This was what happened last year in the 2006 Conference Championship game against the Indianapolis Colts. The Patriots were leading in the second half and decided to play a soft defense and their offense tried to use up as much game time as possible. It ended catastrophically, because the Colts made short passes and rushes, and eventually won the game. To win against the Jaguars, the Patriots defense needs to stay aggressive. The Patriots’ defense needs to put pressure on Garrard and watch for the quarterback scramble for the entire game. The Patriots’ offense needs to continuously score even when they are ahead.

The Patriots will be the most widely watched team, as NFL fans want to see if the Patriots will continue winning in the playoffs and set the new record for a perfect entire NFL season of 19 consecutive wins.

Yet, the Patriots came back strong and won the last game of the regular season with a score of 38 to 35.

Randy Moss has 21 touchdown receptions this season. Moss is 2 receptions away from breaking Jerry Rice’s record of 22 touchdown receptions in a regular season.

Why has Moss been so spectacular in NFL 2007? Tom Brady. That’s why. Brady is an extremely accurate quarterback. He is known for quick passes to tight spots. Brady is the best quarterback that Moss has ever caught for.

But there is a problem with Moss’s abilities. Moss does well in the first half of the season but his performance diminishes at the end of the season. That happened when he played for the Vikings and the Raiders. Maybe he gets bored or tired. Who knows?

Moss is now having receiving problems because he is being double and triple covered by defenses. Also, Brady has become impatient and constantly throws the deep pass, which is a low percentage pass, to Moss. Brady needs to be more patient and throw to other receivers such as Stallworth, Welker, Brown, Gaffney or the Tight Ends to keep the defense off balance and set up shorter touchdown passes to Moss.

The Giants will likely play their backups so the defense will be weaker than usual. Moss has a very high chance of breaking the touchdown receptions record. Only if he has the will to do it.

Will the Giants versus Patriots game be more popular than the Superbowl?

Originally, the New York Giants versus New England Patriots game was to be broadcast on ABC and NFL network. But the NFL announced yesterday that the game will also be simulcast on both CBS and NBC. Therefore almost every public channel will show the game. That means the historic "goal of perfection" New England Patriots game will be broadcast with more viewership than the Superbowl. It is like the presidential "State of the Union" address. Do you think this game will have more viewer ratings than the 2007 Superbowl?

So what if the NFL wants fans to pay to watch this game on their NFL network channel. So what if the Giants coach, Tom Coughlin, got his stardom as the head coach of the Boston College Eagles, so he's likely to take it easy on New England. So what if the only incentive for the Giants to play is Eli Manning defending his big brother, Peyton Manning's honor.

Look. It's a bird. It's a plane. It's the SuperPatriots. At the 2006 playoffs, the San Diego Chargers said that they would beat the Patriots on their way to the Superbowl. After the Chargers were defeated 24 to 21, the Patriots made a weeping Tomilson and the Chargers eat their words.

In game 2 of the 2007 NFL season, the Chargers met the Patriots again. The Patriots were upgraded with Moss, Welker, Stallworth and a healthy Seau and Harrison. But this time the Chargers were silent because they knew what the Patriots can do. Again the Chargers were defeated with a score of 38 to 14. In Game 6 of 2007, the Dallas Cowboys and Owens said that they will beat the Patriots and that the Cowboys will be the only undefeated team in the NFL. Yet the Patriots beat the Cowboys 48 to 27. A humiliated Owens still said that the Patriots were not that good. In Game 8, the Patriots blew out the Redskins with a score of 52 to 7. The ashamed Redskins asked the world why the Patriots had to beat them so bad. In Game 9 of 2007, the only 2 undefeated NFL teams met. The silent Colts had played against the Patriots numerous times and knew what the Patriots were capable of. The Patriots beat the Colts 24 to 20 and were now the only undefeated team in the NFL. In Game 12 of 2007, the Baltimore Ravens said they would give the Patriots their first loss of the season. Yet the Patriots beat the Ravens 27 to 24. In Game 13 of 2007, the Pittsburgh Steelers said that they had been waiting all season to end the Patriot's winning streak and that they knew how to win against the Patriots. Yet the Patriots beat the Steelers 34 to 13.

The undefeated Patriots with 15 wins has broken the regular season winning record of 14 wins by the 1972 Miami Dolphins. Opponent's fans had rooted against the Patriots all season. Yet only one game stands in the way of the New England Patriot's perfect regular NFL season. Who are these men that make their opponents weep? They're not mere men. I saw the Supermen win again last Sunday.
