On Wednesday, June 4, 2008, the Detroit Red Wings won the NHL 2008 Stanley Cup. The Red Wings won the Stanley Cup in Game 6 of the 7 game series against the Pittsburg Penguins.

Henrik Zetterberg was named the winner of the Conn Smythe Trophy for the Most Valuable Player of the postseason. Nicklas Lidstrom became the first European captain to win a Stanly Cup.
